20140814-214344.jpgI am grateful that my second, and largest community support event for this year, has been finalized with the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.

20140415-155300.jpgI had an opportunity to serve the community today with co-worker and friend, PDJ. We met some volunteers as well from our company, the staff and volunteers at the non-profit Loaves and Fishes, and the people of the community that we served.

It was an open hearted experience as we set up the dining hall, prep the food, prep the donated bread and items for the community to take from, and to serve the meals. It is always a time of gratitude to have a chance to give back to the community and have a part in giving warm meals, smiles, and kindness.

“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I am grateful for another afternoon to be of service to the community.

Today, we sorted out and bagged 9,000 pounds of clementines (although, some oranges snuck in to the party!). It was refreshing to smell beautiful citrus as we worked.

Did you know that smelling the rinds of oranges make you feel happy? The clementines added more sweetness and cutieness to the mix.

The volunteer name tag ball has been growing for over 14 months, and the wall of t-shirts represents most of the volunteers from several Bay Area companies. My company sports red shirts.

It was a great day! I’m off to dinner with friends, followed by a painting event.
