I recently posted this on instagram, and wanted to introduce myself.

My name is Mercedita. Nice to meet you!

I think I may have overindulged… Maybe just a tad…

So let me rationalize this… Please bear with me.  I don’t shop often; although I will admit that shoes and bags are my weaknesses.  I usually do one large purchase after many, many months of non-purchase.  And I look for sale items and I am good at getting the best deals for my buck.  Actually, the pair of running shoes (which I need) cost the most, and it was already on sale. And some were to treat myself for my birthday?

Did my rationalizing work?  LOL

“Ghosttown” is a song that’s frequently on repeat right now.  It just resonates with me.

According to Madonna, during the Rolling Stone interview, “Ghosttown” is a song that “is kind of looking at the world in a way, seeing civilization collapse around us, for lack of a better word. And at the end of the day, if we run out of oil and we don’t have electricity and we don’t have all the modern conveniences, and we have no phones and computers, all we’re going to have is each other, is humans. And that song’s about recognizing that.”

To me, “Ghosttown” translates as a song of incredible support and encouragement.

Here are some of the lyrics courtesy of directlyrics.com:

I know we’re alright
‘Cause we’ll never be alone
In this mad, mad; in this mad, mad world
Even with no light
We’re gonna shine like gold
In this mad mad, in this mad mad world

When it all falls, when it all falls down
I’ll be your fire when the lights go out
When there’s no one, no one else around
We’ll be two souls in a ghost town

When the world gets cold
I’ll be your cover
Let’s just hold
Onto each other
When it all falls, when it all falls down
We’ll be two souls in a ghost town

imageI was going to go in a different direction today, until that is, I turned on the TV, and it was the MasterChef Junior finale…

Wow! The kids on MasterChef Junior were incredibly inspiring, and the two finalist were fantastic.  Nathan Odom, 12 years of age vs. Andrew Zappley, 11!  I am not going to spoil this for anyone who still wants to watch the finale, but I just have to give props to these two kids!  (And to all kids who are following their culinary dreams right now and wowing everyone!)

Yay! It’s here! My renewed passport is here! Time for new adventures!

imageI requested extra pages, so hopefully I will be able to fill it up!

imageIt has been a very long time since I’ve done a good long walk, but I became excited once I saw this view from the path… about 2 miles from my starting point, because I knew I was near!

And this was my reward… a place of serene beauty where I was able to reflect, breathe in some clean air, stretch, meditate, and pray.  So grateful for this amazing views.

Be brave! Be fierce! Be open! Be love!

imageI had a yummy, Vietnamese dinner with some of my closest friends to celebrate my birthday. I had a drink called a “Hanoi Hottie,” which was super spicy from muddled jalapēnos.  The fried catfish and the bouncing beef were the best.

R gave each of us a button purchased from the cupcake shop to represent us. The bottom two were for me.  S had brought this cute, mini pedestal for the cupcake.  How cute!

Cupcakes from “Love At First Bite” cupcake shop for dessert.

imageI chose this one because of the design. The little balls were malt balls, to my surprise, atop a chocolate cupcake with butter cream icing.  I believe this was the best one according to taste and design.  We cut it into quarters to taste.  That would have been enough for me, but they kept cutting more cupcakes–for a total of 6!  Oh, the sugar overload!  I was not used to all the sugar!

I am grateful to R, S, and G for the gift of their friendship, this celebratory dinner, and the gift to “Kitchen On Fire”– to help me expand my culinary knowledge and skills!  Thank you!
